Real Larchfield Estate Wedding... Rachel & James October 2017

May 14 2018

We want to inspire you when during your planning process by sharing our past couples wedding journeys! Rachel & James got married at the end of October last year, and held their dreamy wedding reception at Larchfield Estate. We adore the main barn with all of their candles, twinkling lights and stunning flower arrangements. Rachel wore a pretty floral crown, and a beaded and lace dress. James had a maroon tie paired with a smart navy suit. The Autumnal colours around Larchfield were beautiful! Rachel and James truly had a perfect Autumn wedding!

How did the two of you meet?

We met at McHugh's bar in Belfast 5 years ago. My friends and I crashed James' football night out. We've been together ever since!

Can you tell us a little bit about the proposal…

James proposed when we were on a weekend trip to London. He almost got down on one knee (!!) but I suspected something was going on and didn't let him! Instead he proposed over cocktails and tapas which was perfect! The next day we went to pick out an engagement ring together which was definitely a highlight along with a lot of champagne!

How did you envision your wedding day to be?

We are both pretty laid back and wanted minimal fuss. I wanted lots of flowers and candles and James was happy enough to go along with this! The main aim for us was that we would have a great party with family and friends.

What stood out about Larchfield Estate for you?

Right from the start we knew that Larchfield was the venue for us! It is amazing how the barn completely transforms into a magical wedding venue. We loved the laid back feel and the fact that we could put our own stamp on it. We also fell in love with Rose Cottage and will definitely be back to stay again.

What made you choose the end of October? Was your wedding day a special date for you?

We both love the Autumn time and the gardens around Larchfield are stunning in Autumn and provided the perfect backdrop for our photographs. An added bonus was that we wanted to go to South Africa on our honeymoon and it is their summer at that time of year.

Do you have any favourite wedding planning memories?

Neither of us are particularly great planners so it was an effort at times to sit down at focus after a long day at work.....! Luckily Larchfield staff provided a really helpful list of rated suppliers that really did make such a difference to us when it came to researching options. By the end of it James had become rather attached to his 'wedding spreadsheet'!

Are there any suppliers you would like to give a shout out to?

Floral Earth - the flowers were truly incredible!!! Everyone commented on how talented Tim and his team are and they really brought all the decor together in the barn with minimal hassle.

Sharon Kee Photography - The photos came back better than we could have ever expected and Sharon was very chilled out on the day and put us both at ease. She got a fabulous shot of us in the greenhouse at Larchfield underneath the fairy lights and it is definitely a favourite!

The Real Shindig - These guys were great - they have a more traditional sound which we loved. They even learnt our first dance song from scratch which we really appreciated!

What advice would you give to future couples planning their wedding day?

Definitely don't sweat the small stuff. It is very easy to get swept up in 'wedding mania' but at the end of the day none of that really matters. It really is just about celebrating with family and friends.
